Our Approach

At Storyed we believe improving mental health and spiritual formation is a partnership between God, the individual, and a safe community. We developed a simple framework to help us in this growth.

The Storyed Framework.

Story is Our Lens

At Storyed, we believe story isn’t just a teaching tool—it’s the way the human brain is wired. Story is the lens through which we interpret the world, shape our beliefs, and make meaning out of life. From the earliest memories to the way we respond in relationships, our brains are constantly organizing information in narrative form.

The stories we tell ourselves shape how we see God, how we see others, and how we see ourselves. These inner narratives form the patterns of our thoughts, emotions, and decisions—often without us even realizing it. That’s why we start with story: because when you change the story, you change the life.

Theory of Attachment

At the heart of every person is a longing for connection—and attachment theory helps us understand why. This well-established psychological framework explains how our earliest relationships shape the way we relate to others throughout life. Whether we lean toward trust or self-protection, intimacy or withdrawal, these patterns often begin in childhood and follow us into adulthood, relationships, and even faith.

But the story doesn’t end there. The beauty of attachment theory is that it also offers hope: what’s been wounded in relationship can be healed in relationship. As adults, we can experience new, safe connections—with friends, spouses, mentors, and spiritual communities—that begin to rewrite our internal narratives. And most importantly, we believe an intimate, secure relationship with Jesus has the power to restore what’s been broken. Through His presence, we can learn to trust again, love again, and live with open hearts.

Our Brain on Imagination

The human brain is wired in a remarkable way: it often can’t tell the difference between something we vividly imagine and something we actually experience. When we engage our imagination, we activate many of the same neural pathways as we do in real life—our emotions, our memories, even our physical responses.

This is more than a neurological quirk—it’s a spiritual opportunity. At Storyed, we use the power of holy imagination to help people experience deeper intimacy with Jesus. When we enter into Scripture imaginatively, or prayerfully visualize Jesus with us in our past and present stories, we create space for real healing and connection. These imagined experiences aren’t “fake”—they’re formative. They help us rewire the brain, rewrite painful narratives, and practice new ways of seeing ourselves through the eyes of grace.

In short, imagination becomes a sacred tool for transformation. It opens the door to encountering Jesus not just as an idea, but as a present and personal companion.

Rest in the Face of Delight

Our brains are shaped by faces—especially the faces that reflect back delight. Neuroscience and attachment theory tell us that seeing joy and attunement in someone else’s face can literally calm our nervous system and begin to heal relational wounds. This is why a parent’s warm, responsive gaze is so essential for a child’s development—and why its absence can leave deep scars.

Scripture echoes this truth again and again. We’re invited to “seek His face always” (Psalm 105:4) and reminded that “The Lord make His face shine upon you” (Numbers 6:25). In the biblical imagination, the face of God is not distant or disappointed—it’s radiant with joy, full of compassion, and turned toward His people in love.

At Storyed, we help people slow down and rest in that face—the face of Jesus who delights in being with us. Through guided prayer, imaginative encounters, and Scripture-based reflection, we create space to experience the way Jesus looks at us—not with judgment, but with delight. As we rest in His loving gaze, something profound happens: our defenses soften, our hearts open, and we begin to feel safe, seen, and secure.

Year & Years

In a world of instant gratification, transformation can feel frustratingly slow. But real change—especially the kind that rewires the brain and reshapes the heart—takes time. Healing doesn’t happen in a moment. It happens in moments, repeated over days, weeks, months, and years.

At Storyed, we embrace the long journey. Spiritual and emotional renewal comes not through quick fixes, but through faithful presence—returning again and again to Jesus in prayer, Scripture, and stillness. As we enter into daily and weekly rhythms of connection with Christ, our minds begin to renew, our hearts begin to soften, and our lives slowly, steadily transform.

The world may demand urgency, but Jesus invites us into consistency. It is His patient, unhurried presence with us over time that restores what’s broken and re-forms us into people of love. And it’s in this long faithfulness—over years and years—that new stories are written.
